DE SINGEL wants to be a contemporary and welcoming arts house, a lively and international leading meeting place for art without borders in a changing world. Its unique building on a multifaceted arts site links DE SINGEL to the rich variety of communities in Flanders (and Antwerp), with artists and art practices from every corner of the globe. Continuing to build on an interesting artistic past, DE SINGEL wants to invite as diverse an audience as possible to experience music, theatre, dance and architecture – and everything in between. To burst out of its own bubble and through art to also discover and experience others’ perspectives.
Note:
The Flemish Government established DE SINGEL, owns the building complex, is the core provider of subsidies, and conferred on it
the statute of Art Institution.
As an open house that builds bridges between art and society, DE SINGEL is aware of its societal role in the public debate. This mission and vision is the foundation of our positioning in society, but it remains a work in progress. DE SINGEL continues to work on a constructive approach in which we translate social and cultural dynamics into our day-to-day operations. We believe that criticism is a core driver of change and welcome every open debate about the way we work.
