Guillaume Bijl (B)

Guillaume Bijl (b. 1949, lives in Antwerp) has been an established figure in plastic art since the Eighties. In his installations, which are perfectly staged settings of reality, he uses ordinary found objects to imitate exactly our everyday surroundings. In this way he emphasises without illusion what life is made of, both its glory and its absurdity. He asserts that what he is showing is the decor of his own era. He has exhibited at the MuHKA in Antwerp, (2004), the Galerie David Zwirner (2003), Tate Liverpool (2003), Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig (2002), the Venice Biennale (1999) and Documenta IX (1992).
