ACROSS - VERS.A
The ACROSS lecture series is already at its fourth edition. Its starting point is the observation that in Belgium there is a lack of exchange and dialogue between the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking architectural cultures. The lectures are designed to address this and to offer a forum where young architectural firms can reflect on their practice and on the context in which they work. Every speaker is introduced by a senior architect from the other language region.
VERS.A
After winning a competition for a public tender in 2011, Guillaume Becker and Kobe Van Praet formalised their partnership by setting up the architectural firm VERS.A in Brussels. Their tripartite reflection on materiality, structure and form, which they applied to the construction of the information pavilion and the landscaping of the surroundings of the Mariemont estate (see photo), perfectly encapsulates their vision from that time. These days, their practice is more diverse and the spectrum of their interventions has become broader, ranging from the interior design of a pavilion for a private art collector to the design of public facilities.
