BWMSTR label / Inspire to expire
tentoonstelling
How do we get rid of the 50-year-old regional plan? ‘Inspire to expire’ shows us.
To ensure that your visit to this exhibition takes place as safely as possible, please respect the following rules:
- face masks are obligatory in all of deSingel’s public spaces;
- always keep a 1.5-metre distance from other visitors;
- only electronic payments will be accepted at the book sales desk.
We wish you a pleasant visit to ‘Inspire to expire’.
Our spatial planning is inextricably linked to the regional plans. These were devised for the whole of Belgium in the 1970s and still determine where construction is permitted. The preparatory studies for these plans contain what were then progressive ideas, but their implementation was dominated by realpolitik. Under pressure from landowners, the residential surface area kept on growing: we still have room for at least a million homes, because the plans were never adjusted. Despite the concrete ban, the urbanisation of the countryside can continue apace. This places a burden on our future. Under the BWMSTR Label, academics and experts explored how the regional plan came about, and above all how we can get rid of it. ‘Inspire to expire’ shows the result of this quest.
