Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA) / Walter Niedermayr
location
DS1 Wandelgang achter BZ
Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa are together part of SANAA, one of the world's most notable architectural firms, which is based in Tokyo. Their latest buildings, which include the 21st-Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa (Japan, 2004) and the Zollverein School of Management and Design in Essen (Germany, 2006), and their projects currently under construction, including the New Museum in New York (2007) and Louvre-Lens in Northern France (2009), confirm their status as leading twenty-first century architects.
The photographer Walter Niedermayr has now been keeping track of their work for five years. His diptychs, usually large format, and his double projections, are not straightforward depictions of SANAA's work, but interpret their seemingly light, almost ephemeral architecture.
This exhibition, in a setting created specifically for deSingel, and the accompanying publication, present this collaboration between the architects and the photographer for the first time.

This exhibition later moved to Arc-en-Rêve, Centre d'architecture, Bordeaux (F) (14.7.2007 - 28.10.2007) and AuT - Architektur und Tirol, Innsbruck (AU) (29.2.2008 - 8.6.2008). The publication won the 2007 'Photo Book' prize awarded by the German Book Trade Association.
