Amarant. De muziek van de barok
cursus
Amarant. The music of the baroque
Today, Monteverdi, Bach, Handel and Vivaldi have become an indispensable part of the average classical music lover’s life. In this course, we’ll be looking at their music in relation to the times in which they lived. From a kaleidoscope of perspectives we try to create a musical map of the baroque period. We will of course talk about the great works ('Messiah', and ‘St Matthew Passion’), the popular genres (cantata, opera, sonata, suite, etc.) and the new instruments (from violins to harpsichords); but we will also touch upon folk music, dance and theatre, the social position of the musicians, the place of women in musical life, and the influences of church and state.
10 x on Wednesday
Wed 26 Sep, 3 Oct, 10 Oct, 24 Oct, 7 Nov, 14 Nov, 21 Nov, 28 Nov, 5 Dec, 12 Dec 2018
Blue foyer / 2 pm to 4.30 pm
