The jazz trumpeter Bert Joris (Wilrijk, 1957) gave the Belgian jazz scene an international face. As a performer his name is mentioned in the same breath as such leading trumpeters as Wynton Marsalis, Nicolas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Randy Brecker and Ack Van Rooyen. His compositions are played by orchestras all over the world. As an educator he was responsible for starting up a jazz course in Flanders which in some Conservatoires has evolved into a separate jazz department. The Stichting Conservatorium Antwerpen is organising this tribute concert, which will also include compositions Bert Joris wrote specially for their big band.
