Of all the Romantics, Robert Schumann is the most refined. Nevertheless, his mind was very unstable and this is reflected in his music. In the end he went mad, tried to commit suicide and died two years later after being reunited with his beloved wife Clara. She was an exceptionally gifted pianist whose admirers included Mendelssohn, Chopin and Goethe. She was also an excellent composer of piano music and Lieder. We would like to take this opportunity to also shed light on her work too.
