Cursus Amarant . Opera en Romantiek
Een cultuurhistorisch overzicht van de kunst der emotie. Van Rossini tot Puccini (1800-1900)
The final death rattle of Mimi, the seductive temperament of Carmen, the humour of Figaro, the biting sarcasm of Rigoletto and the tears of Madame Butterfly. They can be seen in dozens of opera houses all over the world again and again, every opera season: the great theatrical moments of romantic opera. They are at the heart of what is called the 'iron repertoire', the evergreens of classical musical theatre.
In the second part of this course, Amarant deals with nineteenth-century opera. Italy, the quintessential opera country, experiences new highlights with the work of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and their irresistible bel canto, followed by such great masters as Verdi and Puccini. France has its Cherubini, Gounod, Berlioz, Debussy and of course Bizet. In the German-speaking world we see Weber, Beethoven and Wagner.
