2h 30' In the 'Vienna 1900' series we shall examine the culture of the Viennese fin-de-siècle in which music, as 'the most spiritual of the arts', played a central role. We shall be discussing the work of Mahler and Zemlinsky in relation to the Viennese Secession, Klimt and Olbrich. We will discuss Schoenberg and the Second Viennese School and examine their relationships with avant-garde painters like Kokoschka and Kandinsky.
