duration
2h 30' Of all the ‘Viennese classics’, it was indisputably Beethoven that laid the foundations for the Romantic period. He represented a totally new way of thinking, and paved the way – whether consciously or unconsciously – for Schubert, Mendelssohn, Weber and Rossini.
Berlioz and Chopin further expanded the profile of the Romantic composer. In the meantime, two camps began to appear in the musical landscape: those who wanted to continue in Beethoven’s footsteps (Schumann, Brahms) and those who wanted to take a different approach (Liszt, Wagner).
This cross-section of the first half of the musical 19th century aims to bring the listener into contact with the rich abundance of changing compositional insights, embedded in their social context.
10 x on Wednesday
Wed 9, 16, 23 Oct, 6, 13, 20, 27 Nov,
