Een jubeljaar voor GF Händel
On 14th April 1759, a few days after the last performance of 'Messiah', Handel drew his final breath in his London home at Brook Street. The commemoration of this day, now almost a quarter of a millennium ago, is a good reason to take a closer look at his work. We follow Handel's journey from Saxony to Italy, and from there to England. Baroque specialist Jan Van Mol will open up the world of the oratorio, the concerto, the cantata and the suite for you, and will lead you through classics like 'Messiah', 'Firework Music', and 'Coronation Anthems'. Opera specialist David Vergauwen will deal with the impressive oeuvre the composer wrote for the theatre. We'll discuss Handel as theatre manager. You'll also find out a lot more about his relationships with numerous prima donnas and castrati.
