SaxOnly
Curious to see how a hundred saxophones overrun deSingel in 'A Tribute to Urban Sax'? Come and listen to SaxOnly. After this spectacular opening to the concert you can hear 'Desperate for Sax': six saxes of all sizes face to face with dance and video projection. Also improvisation by saxophones and live electronics in a mix by Champ d'Action, and lastly George Heussenstam's 'Score' for four sax quartets and four percussionists. After the interval the programme continues with an exclusive concert by The Beau Hunks: nine saxophonists from Amsterdam together play forty-eight unique vintage instruments - including slide saxophones! - with virtuoso light music from the thirties. Lastly there is an after-party in the foyer, with DJs and - of course - saxes.
SaxOnly, which is on from 15 to 18 April 2009, is a four-day initiative by Hans de Jong, who teaches saxophone at Antwerp Conservatory. SaxOnly is for anyone of any level and any age, from Conservatory students to the very youngest enthusiastic amateur. The programme includes master-classes and talks by tutors from Belgium and abroad, workshops on various forms of improvisation, concerts and lots more. You can even play along with a hundred other saxophonists in 'A Tribute to Urban Sax'! You will find the full programme on the SaxOnly myspace page.
