Workshop Kenny Werner . Jazz Middelheim
Music has been in Kenny Werner's blood since he was a small child: he already appeared on television at the age of seven to play a piece of stride piano. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and then went on to the Berklee School of Music in Boston. As a young man he was able to work on the record Something Like a Bird with the bassist Charles Mingus. He later played in Archie Shepp's band. In 1984 he joined the Mel Lewis Orchestra as pianist, and built up a solid reputation. He developed into a compelling pianist who makes full use of his talents solo, in a trio and in larger bands. One very special element in Werner's artistry is his philosophical teaching method, called 'Effortless Mastery', in which he approaches music from the angle of Zen Buddhism.
