Workshop Laboratorium hedendaagse muziek

This will be the third 'Laboratory for Contemporary Music'. The aim is to immerse music students and other interested parties in a bath of contemporary music, with a strong emphasis on the use of electronics and new media. The project gives aspiring professional musicians practical experience in an experimental setting. The students follow an intensive six-day course with workshops, supervision by composers and musicians from Champ d'Action, sample presentations, open rehearsals, and individual instrument and composition sessions. The cherry on the cake is a grand finale concert on Saturday 19th March 2011, which will conclude Ars Musica in Antwerp. This year's 'Laboratory' will focus on the work of two internationally renowned artists: Yannis Kyriakides and Mark Applebaum. Both composers will give several workshops and supervise periods of rehearsal. Champ d'Action will coordinate the project, engage composers and provide logistical support together with deSingel.
