1h 15' In only three years, the Kathak dancer and choreographer Akram Khan, born in London to Bangladeshi parents, has taken the contemporary dance scene by storm, drawing crowds to all the major venues where he has performed. For 'Kaash', a compelling rhythmic choreography from 2002 in sets designed by Anish Kapoor, Akram Khan delved into Hindu mythology and cosmological principles. In his new dance piece, 'Ma' (which means 'mother' in many languages, and 'earth' in Hindi), the choreographer turns away from the cosmos to ponder the current situation of our planet. In this dance production for seven dancers, accompanied by three Indian musicians and with supporting text by Hanif Kureishi, Akram Khan is not only expanding his skills as a dancer and choreographer, but also opening up an entirely new world of expression and meaning.
