1h 15' The choreographer Akram Khan believes all our stories are both unique and universal. Unique because of our genetic and cultural heritage. Universal because they always have the same underlying themes: from birth to the search for identity and on to death. This is also true of the dancers in 'Bahok': they come from all over the world and each speaks a different language, but they find each other in their universal stories, and share the same dreams and utopias. 'Bahok' means 'bearer' in Bengali. In Akram Khan's latest creation the dancers are the 'bearers' of various cultures: apart from three performers from the National Ballet of China, there are also performers from Korea, India, South Africa and Spain. Together they bring a contemporary version of the Tower of Babel to life. For 'Bahok' this internationally acclaimed choreographer will once again work with the writer Hanif Kureishi and the composer Nitin Sawhney. 'Bahok' is a sublime multicultural experience, with absolutely first-rate dance!
