1h 15' In September 2008 the British-Bengali choreographer Akram Khan appeared at deSingel with his successful production 'Bahok'. In his new choreographic work 'Vertical Road' he works on universal stories and images of the ascension, angels and the spiritual body. For this he consulted various cultures and religions from which he drew innumerable images and impressions. He sees the human body as a vector of communication, cultural memory and personal histories. His dancers come from all over the world, ranging from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East to South-East Asia. Besides holding a range of religious beliefs, they are also bearers of a universal longing for something that transcends the purely physical. With all their energy, they find themselves on the vertical road between the earthly and the spiritual. Once again Akram Khan will be working together with the composer Nitin Sawhney. 'Vertical Road' will be a dance performance that guarantees audiences a visually inspiring and spiritual experience.
