duration
1h 25' An empty stage, minimal lighting and a soundtrack. 'Out of context' is an intimate performance in which Alain Platel returns to the basis of dance and to exploration. His field of study remains thrilling, even slightly dangerous. For instance, what is hysteria? Or: how controllable is your own body? With this material Alain Platel sends his eight dancers onto the stage. Together they will study dance in relationship to a certain state of excitement. They examine the link by way of the medical term 'chorea', a disorder in the nervous system. Sudden, quick and uncontrolled movements are one of its physical symptoms. They examine voyeurism and diffidence and question the intimacy of looking and being looked at.
And what about you? You are invited to confront different, strange, extreme or challenging behaviour. Leave your embarrassment in the cloakroom and allow yourself to be swept along by what will always be a thoroughly human Platel adventure.
