The Spirit of Goya is an energetic performance in which twelve young dancers bring to life the values and themes found in the work of Francisco Goya. Inspired by his critical perspective on democracy, community, water, and representation, a powerful dialogue emerges between past and present. With a blend of contemporary dance, hip-hop, and krump, the dancers translate Goya’s visionary spirit into a current and dynamic language of movement.
This performance is part of EUROPALIA ESPAÑA and connects with the exhibition on Goya and the "Goyaesque" visual language. Just as Goya critically and visionary questioned society in his time, The Spirit of Goya does the same today. The work transcends boundaries of identity and time, inviting the audience to reflect on our own “caprichos,” “desastres,” and “disparates” of today.
