Amanda Piña & Daniel Zimmermann
Dance and Resistance - Endangered Human Movements Vol. 2
You got to know them last season: the Mexican-Chilean choreographer Amanda Piña and the Swiss artist Daniel Zimmerman. This duo, who have been working in Vienna under the name Nada Productions since 2005, were guests in our Theatre Studio with ‘War’. This unusual dance evening was a plea for diversity in art and society and was a cutting indictment of all forms of cultural prejudice.
‘Dance and Resistance’ is the second work in the ‘Endangered Human Movements’ series, which deals with dance traditions that are in danger of extinction. This second part brings dances to the stage that were forbidden in periods of colonisation and evangelisation. They were performed in communities and are mostly about the mutual relationship between man, animals and environment. What significance may these historical dances have today?
