Danzas Climaticas
Join Amanda Piña in drawing inspiration from the dances of the Masewal people…
The revival of ancestral movements, traditions and dance forms plays a central role in the work of performer and choreographer Amanda Piña. Her concern at the plundering of natural resources and the loss of biodiversity is the common thread in this new work. For ‘Danzas Climaticas’, already the fourth creation to be co-produced by deSingel, she draws inspiration from the traditional dances of the Masewal people. Like holograms of socio-ambiental relations, these dances are offerings to the mountains. Mountains are animate living beings, which interact with the wind in order to create rain and store water. Piña as well grew up in a mountain region in Chile, which today is subject to mining activities. Just like the Masewal, she believes that all life is interconnected. In ‘Danzas Climaticas’ a place is created from where to share grief and fury, to mourn and stand up. We are already firmly under the spell of her powerful artistic vision and engagement.
