1h 15' One early morning in the summer of 2010, a spontaneous moment of improvisation on an empty stage at the Cloître des Célestins in Avignon demonstrated how much the choreographers Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Boris Charmatz have artistically in common. They share a passion for structures, and are both attracted by the freedom of improvisation. Plans were made and in due course a duet was born, partly shaped by the masterly violin score of Bach's 'Partita no. 2'. Ictus' George Alexander van Dam also helped to get things going, but on stage it is the violinist Amandine Beyer who will be providing the musical accompaniment. The artist Michel François, for whom strength lies in simplicity, has again been asked to create a scenic space.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Boris Charmatz invite us to witness the essence and complexity of their shared exploration. They try to make the underlying musical structure visible by adding layer upon layer. But above all, they show the effect the music has on their bodies: the inspiration, the intoxication, the physical pleasure and the immediate reaction to sound.
