1h 30' Vivaldi's Four Seasons relived through dance in a plea for geopolitical reflection.
The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi is one of the most iconic and most frequently reproduced pieces of music from the classical repertoire. For this new Rosas creation, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and DE SINGEL house artist Radouan Mriziga draw inspiration from the beautiful recording of Vivaldi's piece by violinist Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli Incogniti.
De Keersmaeker and Mriziga previously collaborated on 3ird5 @ W9rk (2020). In addition to a deep interest in observing nature, geometry and embodied abstraction, they also share a concern for our changing and increasingly disturbing relationship with our natural environment. Pausing to consider the four seasons makes the urgency of the climate crisis painfully clear. Can we still speak of four seasons today? Vivaldi composed the work exactly three hundred years ago in the Mediterranean region, where several continents meet. The piece encourages reflection on the geopolitical dynamic in the region and the way in which knowledge, power and history spread.
De Keersmaeker and Mriziga go back to the core of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and the many emotions and associations that the piece evokes.
