Two different musical genres, jazz and Indian raga, are combined in the form of a dialogue in this production, which is danced by two separate groups of the ensemble's members. The first group dances to ragas, the traditional music from the North of India, while the second performs a choreographic piece set to John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme'. The music selected is related in various ways. 'A Love Supreme' shares the meditative and spiritual character of raga, although the elevating mood of Coltrane's jazz improvisations contrasts with the more earthbound minor shifts and variations that are typical of ragas. 'Miyan Ki Malhar', the raga that plays a key role in the first part, is known for its many ornaments and glissandi, elements that are typical of this classical music genre. In this raga, which is performed during the rainy season, a woman sings of her unbearable longing for her lover, who never shows up. Her fear and confusion, yearning and despair, are translated into movements by several dancers who constantly regroup into small constellations in a poetic choreographic whole.
