Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker - Rosas & Ictus (Het Theaterfestival 2014)
Vortex Temporum
Ever since the start of her career as a choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has been fascinated by the complexity of contemporary music. Now she is turning her attention to 'Vortex Temporum', a late work by the French composer Gérard Grisey. It is a carefully constructed score with a refined timbre, and a harmony based on natural, acoustic sound qualities. The music conveys a strong sense of circular and spiral movements, the very same patterns that are ubiquitous in the performances of Rosas.
Fifteen first-rate performers from Rosas and Ictus join forces in a communal search for different ways of experiencing time. In December 2012, an enthusiastic deSingel dance audience was blown off its feet by a unique performance of Steve Reich's 'Drumming' by these two ensembles. The result was a sublime, incredibly exciting artistic experience. This time round, in an osmotic collaboration with dancers and musicians, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will once again be looking at how time contracts and expands, whirls and splits up. In a choreographic counterpoint of sounds, musicians' gestures, dancers' movements and spatial dynamics.
