Artiste Associé - Daniel Linehan
A no can make space
Last season, Daniel Linehan was working on a book. His aim was to create it in the same way as he would a piece of choreography. Linehan: "It can look as though a book is something durable and a performance something fleeting. But I do not make that distinction as such. What seems to me important about a book or a sculpture is the time-based experience that it can give me. A book reveals itself to me over time, just as a performance does." The title of his book 'A No Can Make Space' alludes to Linehan's habit of setting himself limitations. He starts with a particular system, a structure with inherent limitations, so that along the way he can uncover the limitless possibilities that lie within it. Linehan created 'A No Can Make Space' in close collaboration with Gerard Leysen from the graphics studio Afreux. The result promises to be an artwork in itself. A serious piece of artistry that dance lovers and bibliophiles simply must see.
Prior to the presentation of this book, Linehan will be giving a lecture performance. In it, he tells you about his working process. He does this whilst performing fragments from his choreographies and reporting on them. And in the midst of the dance and text readings, he tries to see himself through your eyes. There is no doubt that this will be an exceptional performance that showcases Linehan's all-round talent.
