EXIT ABOVE / after the tempest
Rosas is back with the new choreography EXIT ABOVE by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker!
In EXIT ABOVE, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker goes back to the roots of her dance practice. Since her earliest work, walking - a primary form of human movement - has been one of the guiding principles in her choreographies. Musically too, De Keersmaeker goes on a journey towards a source, namely that of pop music: her starting point is the Walking Blues of the legendary blues
artist Robert Johnson. Together with Jean-Marie Aerts, the sound architect of the famous Belgian 80s rock band TC Matic, and dancer and guitarist Carlos Garbin, the young Flemish singer-songwriter Meskerem Mees - winner of competitions including Humo’s Rock Rally and Sound Track - composes a series of pared-back adaptations, permutations and propagations of these ‘walking songs’.
In EXIT ABOVE, walking as primal movement encounters the blues as musical source. De Keersmaeker follows in the footsteps of iconic walkers and explores the political and subversive potential of walking, collectively and solitarily, in the outside world and in our deepest interior world.
