Meryem Jazouli - L'Aaroussa
22 uur / inkomhal deSingel
MERYEM JAZOULI studied dance in Paris but returned to Morocco, her native country, to continue her artistic practice. She now lives in Casablanca, where she founded Darja, a place for creation, residencies, training and experiment. She takes the inspiration for her work from the culture and living conditions of her own country. At BOUGE B she will be performing a short solo piece called 'L'Aaroussa', which means 'bride' in Moroccan. You see a moving sculpture that seems to make time stand still. In the midst of the high-spirited sounds of a distant wedding party, Jazouli makes minimal movements that lodge in your memory. Her hand movements are somewhere between prayer and devotion, solemnity and improvisation. This is a warm, intimist performance that displays great inner strength.Trajal Harrell
Judson Church is ringing in Harlem (Made-to-Measure) Twenty Looks or Paris is Burning at The Judson Church (M2M)
20u45 / Theaterstudio
Since 2009, the New York choreographer TRAJAL HARRELL has been developing a series of performances for whose basis he has taken an imaginary encounter between two very different aesthetics of movement from the 1960s: those of the early postmodernists at Judson Church and of the voguing ballrooms. Following 'Mimosa', which was very enthusiastically received during last year's BOUGE B, we are now presenting 'Made-to-Measure' from the same series. In this piece Harrell reverses the original question: what would have happened if in 1963 the performers from the Judson Church had gone uptown to the voguing scene in Harlem? Harrell gradually rewrites the minimalism and neutrality of postmodern dance using a new range of signs. What you see would not have been possible either in the Judson Church or the voguing ballrooms. It is a new form, a third way. The performance starts in an intimist style, seriously, with minimal movements. But the three performers gradually break utterly free in their movements.
Your ticket admits you to all the performances on that one evening.
