Cecilia Bengolea and François Chaignaud’s choreographies focus on both sexual power and the vulnerability of the human body. They thereby draw on a wide range of dance and musical styles, and time and time again this makes their work both fascinating and unprecedented. The French press described them as a choreographic revelation, and their previous performances at deSingel have been greeted with enthusiasm.
In 2015, they created ‘The Lighters Dance Hall Polyphony’ for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. The title alludes to two areas of research that lie close to the choreographers’ hearts: Jamaican dance hall music and polyphonic Georgian songs.
