Christian Rizzo . L'Association Fragile

Some of you may know him as a fashion designer, rock musician or dancer for Mathilde Monnier. This season you can meet him as a choreographer. The French artist Christian Rizzo - who will make his first appearance with his own work in deSingel - is already very successful in his homeland. This is due not only to artistic versatility but also to his exuberant personality and the distinct originality of his work. Soit le puits closely resembles both visual art and dance. As we can see from the title - which comes from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland - literature is not far away either. Rizzo's performances are always an invitation to 'read', to interpret and most of all, to imagine. What is so striking about Soit le puits is the combination of daring innovation and a clear insight into the essence of theatre and dance. We see many recognisable scenes. But appearances can be deceptive. We look in amazement at a baroque world without understanding it. We see beauty without certainty. Everything can suddenly change or become undone. It is as if, to use the words of his beloved philosopher Jankélévitch, he is trying to say: 'To experience adventure you have to be mortal, you have to be vulnerable in a thousand ways.'
