1h After entering into a binding commitment to him as an Associate Artist over the last two seasons, we will be continuing our collaboration with Daniel Linehan. This young choreographer’s career has quickly taken flight over the past few years. He has moved effortlessly from solos and duets to trios and group choreography. Always looking for new challenges, his interest now lies in music scores. For his next creation, co-produced by deSingel, he gets his teeth into Stravinsky’s masterpiece ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’. It will be a choreographic work with thirtheen newly graduated dancers from PARTS. The musicologist Alain Franco is supervising the creative process. The music will be performed live by a specially assembled ensemble of professional and student musicians from the Conservatoires of Antwerp and Brussels, conducted by Vincenzo Casale.
The audience is seated close to the dancers and the musicians. In Linehans’ approach, the story of the individual as a sacrifice to ensure the continuity of the group makes way for a study of musical structure. Despite the absence of stable patterns, the dancers must find a way to keep moving to Stravinsky’s uncompromising piece. The question that seems to arise from this radical score from the past is ‘How can we find new strategies to cope with our rapidly changing circumstances?’
The performance on Saturday 14 February will be followed by a discussion.
