1h 40' A new generation turns against an enormous bull, a symbol of outdated power
The internationally renowned Greek choreographer Dimitris Papaioannou feels at home in multiple disciplines. Anyone trying to place his performances in a single category may perhaps find an answer in one of his earliest passions: painting. As a visual artist, Papaioannou was already focusing on the human body, which for him is the measure of all things. Now he makes theatre on the borderline between visual art and performance. Via Greek mythology and art history he poses existential questions in a playful and accessible way. In Transverse Orientation a new generation turns against an enormous bull, a symbol of violent and outdated power. The bull is killed in the hope of a better future. Papaioannou's admiration for the symbolism of the archetypes also permeates this performance. With a brilliant sense of humour, composition and timing, Transverse Orientation is both a tribute and a farewell to his ancestors. Add to this the music of Vivaldi and you’ll understand that this is performance to which we are eagerly looking forward.
