1h 10' Young Rwandan dancers connect past and future beneath the comforting umuko tree.
In her latest creation, choreographer Dorothée Munyaneza gathers five young Rwandan dancers on stage. Together they evoke umuko, a bright red tree that is deeply anchored in the memories of Munyaneza's childhood in Rwanda. At the foot of umuko - the healing tree, the tree of the ancestors, the keeper of stories - they celebrate the creativity, daring and freedom of a new generation. Those who make the Rwanda of tomorrow, but who have also not forgotten the past. In an interplay of body, poetry, song and traditional inanga music, yesterday's world is connected to that of tomorrow. Munyaneza collects the stories of this fragile, powerful, rebellious and flamboyant youth that shines as bright as the vermilion of umuko's flowers. Munyaneza received the prestigious Salavisa European Dance Award 2024 in November for her oeuvre.
