1h 45' Emanuel Gat studied musical composition before he began his career in dancing. For this young choreographer who works in France this is his first performance at deSingel and in Belgium.
The enchanting 'Silent Ballet' uses silence as an emotional support in a choreography where nine dancers, in changing constellations and in nimble, flowing movements, form an orchestral whole.
'Winter variations' is a creation made with backing from deSingel. In it two men, including Emanuel Gat himself, dance in an empty space. The work is an in-depth study of 'Winter Voyage', an evocative duet inspired by Schubert's 'Winterreise'. The intimate duet enters into dialogue with songs from Richard Strauss' 'Vier letzte Lieder', with a song by the Egyptian composer Riad al Sunbati, and a remix of the Beatles' song 'A Day in the Life'. Imagine a winter landscape in which nature literally exposes its various structures. Emanuel shows us the beauty of composition in a manner that is both powerful and restrained. A composition in which a body moves, stirs and transports.
