1h "There are two ways to approach choreography: invention and discovery. I opt for the second. Rather than develop a new vision I reveal the mechanisms, logic and movement that are already there. I do not consider myself as someone who creates dance. Rather, I create an environment in which choreography can happen."These are the words of Emanuel Gat. He originally wanted to be a conductor. However, he eventually opted for dance, though music has continued to play a central role in his life and his dance pieces. The soundscapes he uses in his performances draws on a variety of sources, ranging from classical music through jazz to experimental. Sometimes he prefers total silence.
The title of his new creation is inspired by an old French hit ‘Plage aux romantiques’ by Pascal Danel. In ‘Plage Romantique’, Emanuel aims to explore the possibilities of a live performance with his dancers, a performance that cannot be reproduced again and again, as if it were a product. He wants to eliminate the idea of repetition and create a flexible, unpredictable choreography. Let us all head for the romantic, unpredictable beach!
