Warehouse of memories and identity to the rhythms of Faustin Linyekula's movements.
Experience two works in a single evening by the Congolese choreographer and dancer Faustin Linyekula. First he takes you on an introspective journey with My Body, My Archive. Linyekula uses his body as a living archive, diving into the history of his country and ancestors. Through dance, breathing and voice, he explores the lost stories of the women in his family history, and honours them with wooden statues created by the Lengola sculptor Gbaga. Linyekula's movements form a soul-stirring dialogue with these female ancestors.
In the second part of the evening, Linyekula and the krump dancer Mamu Tshi - aka. Amandine Ngindu – join forces. Their meeting leads to a joint trip to Kasai in Congo, in search of the roots of the diaspora. Mamu Tshi finds a grandmother there with whom she shares no common language. Linyekula finds traces of a hidden Congo there of which he is endlessly in search. Together they create a danced portrait that intermingles past and present, dance and buried memories.
