Florentina Holzinger
TANZ
The work of Florentina Holzinger sits on the boundary between performance art, choreography, ritual and stunt show. She draws inspiration from icons of art and dance history, but also from pop culture and entertainment. In this co-production with deSingel, she interprets ‘La Sylphide’, the first Russian ballet to focus entirely on the inner state and dance, without narrative. The piece features nymphs dressed in white dancing in the moonlight: Sylphs, mythical creatures with delicate, fine bodies who can reproduce but who, unlike humans, have no soul. This was the ideal starting point for Holzinger for an exploration of the female body as a ‘special effects machine’. On stage: 9 female stunt artists, dancers and a live camerawoman… groundbreaking ballet in 2019!
A number of scenes feature self-harm and blood.
Some audience members may find this disturbing.
