Following successful appearances in the Theatre Studio, the French child prodigy François Chaignaud returns to DE SINGEL. With 14 dancers, Souflette is a production for a large auditorium. Chaignaud created the performance at the request of the Norwegian dance company Carte Blanche. With a background as a historian, it is no coincidence that his performances often include historical references. From erotic literature to sacred art. Souflette is an attempt to blow a medieval breath through our contemporary lips. Think ritual movements, polyphonic songs, and beautiful woollen floral costumes. Once again, Chaignaud proves a master at combining dance and song, which leads to an intoxicating summer party. In colloquial French, “soufflette” means blowing smoke through someone else’s mouth.
