ON_OFF_SPACE is a new workspace for experimentation in DE SINGEL. DE SINGEL unites in the space the different art forms: dance, music, word, performance and installation art. Beginning initiatives and interesting developing artists are invited to create and explore.
TRY_OUT BY HER HANDS
2 ½ octaves from elbow to fingertips, 2 octaves from elbow to fist and palm of hand from major 7th to a minor 9th (Fragment from the score Shadow).
BY HER HANDS is a solo piano study performed by two bodies. The contemporary music piece Shadow (2013) Study for Solo Piano by Rebecca Saunders, explores acoustic resonance in the use of clusters, a piano technique that requires broad gestures on the pianist’s arms and hands. Through the detailed instructions given to the body, the music score invites us to carry this research further into an embodied exploration that results into a deeper physical understanding of the music. Marina Delicado and Helen D’Haenens question why and how to perform this, rather rebellious, contemporary music piece in an attempt to step out of a classical established frame.
