Kiss the One We Are
Daniel Linehan questions the discipline of dance with his new choreography.
Daniel Linehan is a welcome guest at DE SINGEL: since the 2009-2010 season, his work has been performed on an almost annual basis, and from 2017 to 2021 he was one of our Associated Artists. In this capacity, in 2019 he created the solo performance Body of Work, in which he reflected on his own dance past. With Kiss The One We Are, Linehan now bounces the questions that cropped up in this self-reflection back to a group of eight dancers. Together they consider the meaning of dance in their lives.
Dance enables individuals to bring together their individual stories in a shared performance space; dancing together can link us to the many different movements that constantly happen around us: the play of animals, the slow choreography of flowering plants, the dance of atomic particles that vibrate as they continuously interact… If we are surrounded by movement, why would someone consciously choose to devote their life to dance? And above all: when did the dance begin and when will it end?
