1h 30' 17 dancers push social dogmas to one side and claim their place on the stage
After ten years in the field, Jan Martens is all set up for the big stage. In any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones no fewer than 17 dancers are on stage, true to tradition a colourful mix of generations and personalities. The two youngest are 17 and are still studying at an arts-focused secondary school, whilst the 70-year-old dance legend Truus Bronkhorst has been performing since the swinging sixties. Martens drew inspiration for his new creation from the global wave of protest, from Black Lives Matter to the young climate activists and the women's marches in the US and Chili. How do you swim against the stream? In times of extreme polarisation, this eclectic group pushes social dogmas aside and makes a plea for identities in all shapes and colours. A soundtrack of historic and contemporary protest songs - from Henryk Górecki to Kae Tempest – challenges the performers to claim their place on the stage.
