With Elisabeth gets her way, Jan Martens, a regular guest at DE SINGEL, presents a danced tribute to harpsichordist Elisabeth Chojnacka (1939-2017). The harpsichord may not sound like the most sexy of instruments to everyone, but anyone who saw Chojnacka perform was immediately sold. In this moving solo, Martens brings her incredible temperament back to life and immerses us in her rich oeuvre: from 16th-century repertoire to experimental compositions that were especially written for her by composers including György Ligeti and Iannis Xenakis. Martens in turn shows us a multiplicity of dance styles. Elisabeth gets her way, co-produced by DE SINGEL, is both a performance and a mini-documentary. Thanks to interviews with Chojnacka and her contemporaries, we get an intimate portrait of this exceptional musician who converted a wide audience to harpsichord music.
