'The Common People’ is a participation project, installation and performance by the choreographer Jan Martens and the film director Lukas Dhont. Twenty-four couples – ‘ordinary people’ – meet each other for the first time on stage. How do they react to each other and to the audience that are watching them? You witness their search for (intimate?) personal contact. Because, Martens believes, although social media is constantly ‘connecting’ us, it is also causing isolation. His goal is to truly bring people together, and he questions concepts like privacy versus exhibitionism. Discover in real time how duets are created on stage and how the theatre becomes a true meeting place. Or would you like to go on an on-stage blind date yourself? You can apply via info@desingel.be.
