The Belgian choreographer Jan Martens is a familiar face at DE SINGEL. In the coming season he will also become associate artist at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. In Futur Proche, together with fifteen ballet dancers, two children and harpsichordist Goska Isphording, he speculates about a new future. With Elisabeth gets her way and Any attempt Martens already demonstrated his partiality to harpsichord music. Now too he creates a contemporary choreography to the age-old instrument, a perfect match. Following its premier at the Cour d’honneur at the prestigious Festival d’Avignon, the Belgian public will have the opportunity to see Futur Proche in a diptych with Tempus Fugit by Johan Inger. To the music of Bach, the Swedish choreographer pilots us through the stages of a grieving process, culminating in acceptance. Because without hope, there is no life and no dance.
