UNTITLED (CURRENTS)
A light sculpture moves in the dark. Gradual variations in the light and the behaviour of the sculpture give rise to ever-changing perceptions of the space. This spatial perception is accompanied by the orchestrated rhythm of the machine and a tailor-made soundtrack. The dynamic composition of light and sound immerses the viewer in a spherical and disorientating light bath.
The whole installation unfolds like a mesmerising pendulum, whereby the viewer inevitably becomes part of the work purely by dint of their presence. The tension between the rotating machine and the space, between object and viewer, is thus rendered tangible.
Via the relationship between mankind and machines, the installation seeks to unveil our contemporary position as entities who are forced to constantly adapt. How do we continuously find a new balance in an environment that is constantly subject to shifts on both a technological and on a social-political level?
'UNTITLED (CURRENTS)' builds upon the performance 'Currents', a duet between mankind and machines, which premiered at the Vooruit in 2019.
Curated by Jan Martens’ GRIP, this performance is part of BOUGE B’s online programme. Discover the work of our other artists on this blog.
This installation can be visited in blocks of a maximum of 30 minutes. 14 spectators can visit the installation at any one time. A host will accompany you and disinfect everything before and after your visit.
Tickets for two people cost €16. A single ticket costs €8.
