1h 10' Rebellious choreography about borders and belonging
Borders separate the known from the unknown, us from them, me from you. But borders can also shift. The latest work by choreographer Lia Rodrigues is a performance about transcending those visible and invisible barriers. Whether these are walls made of barbed wire, concrete, or rigid beliefs.
Time and again, Rodrigues demonstrates why she has been celebrated for 40 years as a pioneer of Brazilian contemporary dance. Her associative, explosive, and rebellious choreographies for large groups respond to social inequality and ecological unrest, but above all, they celebrate the power of the collective. Previously, she graced DE SINGEL with her two impressive performances, Furía and Encantado. In this new work, she explores the two meanings of the Portuguese word ‘borda’. On one hand, it means ‘to embroider’ or ‘to adorn’; on the other, it signifies a border. In Rodrigues’ interpretation, that border transforms into a fluid embroidery where margins shift, float, and dance. The colours, tactile materials, and dancers together blur all boundaries.
