A bewitching choreography for eleven dancers and a colourful collection of canvases. In Encantado the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues goes in search of rituals that connect us. Rodrigues made Encantado in the aftermath of the Coronavirus crisis that hit her home country Brazil exceptionally hard. Rodrigues’ starting point: a community can conquer its fears and grow closer to one another by going back to nature and rediscovering the rituals that they have lost sight of. Encantado literally means ‘enchanted’ but in Brazil also alludes to the encantados, magical beings that are close to nature and that can transform stones, woods and rivers into magical places. Driven by this mysterious natural power, Encantado unfurls as a wonderful sequence of metamorphoses.
