Marc Vanrunxt / Silas Martens

‘Every rehearsal is a performance, every performance is a rehearsal,’ is the motto of choreographer Marc Vanrunxt and the talented young dancer Silas Martens. The pair met when Martens was studying at the Antwerp Conservatory.

(based on a true story) #14 DEATH OF A DISCO DANCER is an attempt to capture the elusive nature of dance. Playful, fluid movements balance on the cusp between dance and choreography, and are set to music by Krzysztof Penderecki and Mogwai.

Quirky and modest, with a penchant for abstraction and punk: for 45 years, Marc Vanrunxt has built his dance practice on contrasts. In September 2025, he received the very first Flemish stage career award during Het TheaterFestival.

For his format (based on a true story), Vanrunxt starts from organic encounters that spark creative exchange. The creators present the results wherever there is an audience - on the street, on the beach, in a foyer, on a rooftop. And this time, in a hall at DE SINGEL.
