Marlene Monteiro Freitas

Marlene Monteiro is both a choreographer and a performer with a highly unique style and movement language. Six years ago, she performed solo at our dance and performance festival BOUGE B. She now takes over the stage in the Red Hall together with twelve dancers and musicians. In ‘Bacantes - Prelúdio para uma Purga’ she offers her own interpretation of ‘The Bacchantes’, the ancient Greek tragedy in which Euripides describes both boundless cruelty and the longing for peace and a simple life. For more than two hours, she transports you to the deepest caverns of the human psyche. Together with her performers, she stages one crazy tableau after another in a unique mechanical ballet.
